Common Core Curriculum Maps

My team is trying to  wrap our brain around how to plan reading comprehension using the common core.  We are trying to plan using complex texts with a variety of nonfiction.  Our reading curriculum needs to be supplemented in this area.

One of the resources we found is http://commoncore.org/.  Have you seen it or used the units found there?  There are six units available on their mapping guide for first grade.  The first unit is Alphabet Books and Children Who Read Them.  They have integrated reading, writing, science, art and music into the unit.  There is a suggested list of literary texts, information texts, poetry and read alouds.

Our team is going to pilot the first unit.  We have researched it and believe it is a comprehensive unit that will teach the common core and engage the children.  I will keep you posted as our six week unit progresses.  If you have used any of the units, I would love to hear from you! I am off to the Clever School Teacher to find some of the suggested texts that I do not have in my library.  Have you checked them out?  There is a link on the right hand side of my blog.  This is another amazing resource!
