Five for Friday Linky {2/15}

I am linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching with Five for Friday.  Valentine's Day is such a sweet day, but I would like to propose it be the second Friday in February!  Do I get an AMEN??

 fiveforfriday

We started off the week jumping into opinion writing.  We used a brace map to brainstorm the parts  of Valentine's Day we {love}.   No, crazy, sugared up children was not on this list!  HA!

As we discussed how cards can make someone's day and we made a list of school personnel who might not get a card for Valentine's Day.  GASP!! So each child chose one or two employees and made them a special card and they delivered them on Valentine's Day.  So many people made comments today about how sweet it was.

The love of painting is a constant in first grade.  There never seems to be enough time, but even  painting a quick red heart fills their creative spirit. I try to paint something quick and easy to have laminated and put in the "basket" on my lovely brown door!  (Wish I could paint that too!)

Ok, I know these pictures are sideways, BUT I just love this activity by Deanna Jump!  It is a Valentine Card Scrapbook.  The kids sort their cards by animals, superheros, favorites... and add them to the pocket pages in this adorable little book.  I even had some kids pull out their books today and reread their cards.  I love this because you know moms (not me of course!- wink!) often throw these treasures right int he circular file.

And last, but not least, here is a picture of my two little sweethearts!  Justin received a late birthday present in the mail on Wednesday and was so excited to see Night Vision Nerf Football in the box!  It was well worth the wait as half the neighborhood was out playing with it tonight:)

I am so ready to enjoy this 3 day weekend.  Does everyone have President's Day off?  Thinking Sea World with the family if it warms up:)

Currently and a Little "Shop" Talk

I {heart} Farley's Currently over at Oh' Boy 4th Grade and I am a few days behind...ok like a week, but who's counting?

So now, its "Shop" Talk time!  Did you pack your TpT cart to the brink like me?  I started off being so good and then caved at the last minute.  First I stopped by a few of my favorite shops and purchased  a few items from my wish list like February and March Songs and Poems by Jodi Southard, Jen Jones' Label It, Fonts and Vocabulary Word Sets and Mind Your B's and D's by Lori Rosenburg.

Then I started shopping for my intervention group which includes higher level comprehension to challenge the on-level and above level sweeties.  I came across this unit by Teacher to the Core.

I am pulling other resources to build on the heroes, and the kids LOVED it this week!  I am excited to share more nonfiction with them and build their comprehension skills.  You can check this unit out HERE.

If you have made it to the end of this post, I have something for you!  I posted my Reading and Spelling Patterns  BOAT RACE (Long a-silent e) unit last weekend and I am giving it away three units to the first 3 people to leave a comment about their favorite purchase or wish list item AND their email address. You can check it out on TpT HERE!

So happy tomorrow is Friday!

Five for Friday 2/1

OK, here is me jumping back in after being MIA for over a week.  I have had company in town, on top of packing my house to move, touring a middle school for my son, spending 2 late nights at school for parent conference nights, heading to a Common Core Workshop and teaching!

I adore Kasey over at Doodlebugs Teaching and am joining in with the linky today.  Hope you join us as I {heart} peeking into other classrooms!

 fiveforfriday

1.  Started the week on Sunday Strawberry picking with the boys and my mom.  It is one of the benefits of living in Florida in January:)

2.  My kids love practicing the -le reading and spelling pattern with Bubble Reading.  Bubblegum makes everything more fun!

3.  My firsties are so blessed with our fifth grade reading buddies.  We met ever Friday and my kids reread their library book and their buddies help them set up an their AR test.  It is such a nice way to practice reading:)

 4. We made our 100 words book making 10 lists that include 10 words each.  The kids helped me come up with the topics like tv shows, favorite foods, classmates names and colors. I love the extra practice and they thought it was super FUN!

5. To end our 100th day, we made Froot Loop Necklaces after counting and sorting them on a 100's chart.  Such a fun day:)

That was my week in a nutshell!  Hope you had a fabulous week:)
